Rivier University graduate nursing programs ranked second in the nation

Two of Rivier’s online Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) graduate programs were recently ranked second in the United States for the year 2025 by Nurse Practitioner Online.

Rivier’s Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and Family Nurse Practitioner programs have earned the coveted national rankings based on criteria such as program diversity, accreditation, faculty experience, tuition and fees, nursing department size, acceptance rates, and student completion rates.

“These national recognitions reflect Rivier University’s commitment to advancing healthcare through rigorous academic and clinical preparation,” says Sister Paula Marie Buley, IHM, President. “The demand for nurse practitioners remains high, and our faculty and staff are committed to preparing healthcare professionals to serve our communities.”

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment for nurse practitioners is projected to grow by 46 percent from 2023 to 2033, a rate much faster than the average for all occupations. Nurse practitioners are ranked third on the Bureau’s “Fastest Growing Occupations” list and hold the top position among medical professions.

In addition to Master’s degrees, the University offers Post-Master’s Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and Family Nurse Practitioner certificates for those who already hold an MSN. The Master’s degree programs, as well as the graduate certificate programs, are delivered in low-residency formats, with coursework completed online and up to nine days on campus during the course of the program.

“Our graduate students gain advanced clinical skills along with essential soft skills, preparing them to deliver compassionate, quality care,” says Dr. Paula Williams, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of Rivier’s Division of Nursing and Health Professions. “Rivier’s exceptional faculty and resources create a top-tier educational experience, and our flexible format accommodates working nurses.”

Nurse Practitioner Online’s ranking uses a proprietary scoring system informed by data from the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS), the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Postsecondary Education (OPE), and other sources.

Rivier has been recognized as the #1 Private Nursing School in New Hampshire and ranked among the top 50 private nursing schools nationwide by Nursing Schools Almanac for several years. In addition, the University’s online master’s programs were rated the best in New Hampshire by OnlineMastersColleges.com.

Offering an education grounded in liberal education and Catholic tradition, the University offers more than 60 programs from the associate to doctoral degree level in nursing, business, biology, biotechnology, education, computer science, cybersecurity management, and a variety of other in-demand fields, equipping students for the 21st-century workforce.
