Rivier University launches new, online nurse practitioner programs
Adult Gerontology – Acute Care Nurse Practitioner programs offer new opportunities in advanced healthcare education.
Rivier University has added new online graduate programs to its nationally and regionally ranked nursing degrees offerings. A Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) and a Post-Master’s Certificate in Adult Gerontology – Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AG-ACNP) will launch in September 2023.
“As the U.S. population ages, the need increases for nurse practitioners who specialize in adult acute care,” says Dr. Paula Williams, Dean of the Division of Nursing and Health Professions. “The MSN in Adult Gerontology–Acute Care Nurse Practitioner programs will prepare a new generation of practitioners to fill this need and enable current nurse practitioners to expand their certifications and practices.”
Adult Gerontology – Acute Care Nurse Practitioners treat patients ages 17 and older, providing long-term care for patients with acute and chronic health problems. They assess patients’ health conditions, order and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe medications, and develop and oversee treatment plans.
Coursework for the programs will be completed online. Students will come to campus for a total of 8-10 days for intensives where they will meet and interact with their professors and peers. MSN and Post-Master’s Certificate graduates will be prepared to sit for the national AG-ACNP certification examination.
“AG-ACNP certified practitioners are in high demand, yet just 6.1% of all nurse practitioners in the U.S. carry this certification,” says Dr. Donna Proulx, Director of the Graduate and Doctoral Nursing Educations Programs. “These programs offer a valuable opportunity for RNs to advance their careers and make a difference in patient care and the healthcare system.”
Rivier’s online MSN Nurse Practitioner programs have been ranked #6 in the nation by Nurse Practitioner Online and the University is ranked a top 100 private nursing school out of 3,000 institutions evaluated across the country by Nursing Schools Almanac (NSA). It is honored as the #1 nursing school in New Hampshire by NSA and the #1 Online College in New Hampshire by Intelligent.com.
