Rivier University Launches Undergraduate Health Science Degree to Expand Healthcare Workforce

Rivier University's new B.S. Health Science degree will prepare students seeking careers in healthcare and expand the healthcare workforce.

The University will expand its contribution to the healthcare workforce with the launch of a bachelor’s degree in Health Science this fall. The program will prepare students seeking careers in healthcare.

“The existing shortage of U.S. healthcare workers is escalating,” says Dr. Paula Williams, Dean of the Division of Nursing and Health Professions. “According to the U.S. Department of Labor, one third of all new jobs added to the economy will be related to healthcare. Rivier’s new Health Science major is a much-need response to workforce and market demands.”

Taught by leaders in the field, the Health Science program will provide a strong knowledge base in behavioral, natural, social, and health sciences, as well as business, policy, and risk management. The degree includes detailed coursework and hands-on laboratory training in anatomy and physiology, medical microbiology, behavioral science, public health, healthcare management, research methods, social work, and bioethics. Students will have an opportunity to complete an internship in their area of healthcare interest.

Rivier University is a leader in the education of nursing and behavioral health professionals with programs from the associate to doctoral levels. Currently, the University offers a host of nursing, mental health counseling, public health, and business degrees, aimed at increasing the healthcare workforce in New Hampshire and the New England region.

Through its Vision 2020 strategic plan, the University is constructing a Science and Innovation Center. Scheduled to open this fall, the 35,000-square-foot center will offer students state-of-the-art laboratories, equipment, learning spaces, and technology to foster active learning and expanded student and faculty research.
