CARES

The CARES (Campus Advocacy, Resources, and Education for Safety) Team addresses and educates the campus community about sensitive issues such as sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking.

CARES embodies the University’s commitment to addressing gender-based violence, promoting safety, and fostering a supportive environment where every individual can flourish. It operates on five core values:

  1. Support Hub: CARES serves as a dedicated resource and support hub for individuals affected by gender-based violence. It provides a safe space where students can seek assistance, information, and support.
  2. Education and Awareness: CARES conducts workshops, training sessions, and campaigns to educate the campus about the signs of sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking. These initiatives aim to raise awareness about these sensitive issues and equip the community with knowledge on prevention strategies and available resources.
  3. Advocacy and Empowerment: CARES advocates for individuals affected by gender-based violence, empowering them to recognize, respond to, and seek help for instances of misconduct. By fostering a culture of understanding and empathy, CARES encourages proactive intervention and support.
  4. Collaboration: CARES collaborates closely with campus partners and community agencies. This collaboration ensures a coordinated response to incidents of gender-based violence and facilitates access to a comprehensive range of support services for survivors.
  5. Promoting a Safe and Inclusive Environment: CARES strives to promote a campus environment that is safe, respectful, and inclusive for all individuals. It works towards eliminating barriers that prevent students from thriving academically and socially due to the fear of gender-based violence.

Student Resources

The following resources are available to help students gain greater understanding and guidance on CARES issues:

Confidential Resource Advisor

In 2021, New Hampshire passed a law with a focus on sexual misconduct. As part of the new law, colleges and universities are required to provide a Confidential Resource Advisor to assist campus community members with questions about sexual misconduct and to oversee prevention and awareness programming on campus.

What does a Confidential Resource Advisor do?

  • Provides information on reporting options, counseling, and medical services, and connects individuals with community resources and local advocates.
  • Assist with questions and concerns about gender-based violence.
  • Provides guidance and information on the University’s sexual misconduct policies and procedures.

If you have any questions or would like to connect with our Confidential Resource Advisor, please contact Colleen Mills at cmills@rivier.edu, (603) 897-8211.
