Endowed Scholarships
In addition to the Rivier University Fund, endowed scholarships help make a Rivier education affordable for our students. Through the generous support of alumni, faculty, staff, friends, and corporations more than 70 endowed scholarships have been created.
Students seeking scholarship assistance are invited to contact the Office of Financial Aid at (603) 897-8510.

Carl Amelio ’74H Nursing Scholarship
Established by Carl Amelio ’74H, this scholarship recognizes and honors a graduate of the St. Joseph School of Practical Nursing who chooses to pursue a career as a registered nurse through additional education at Rivier University. Mr. Amelio’s belief in the two schools’ Catholic mission and their devotion to excellence in education and Christian values is exemplified by the creation of this scholarship.
Archambeault Hope Scholarship
Created by Patricia Archambeault in memory of her husband, Gerard, who battled amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. The scholarship recognizes Gerard’s strong Christian and Catholic values and is awarded to a student from a New Hampshire high school majoring in an undergraduate nursing or health professions program.
Dr. Rose Arthur Scholarship
This scholarship was established in honor of the founder of the Rivier Institute for Senior Education (RISE), who also served as Dean of the Undergraduate Evening School. The fund supports evening students who have demonstrated a commitment to the greater Nashua community through volunteer work or public service.
William Barrett Scholarship
Established by Margaret Barrett in memory of her husband, William Barrett, friend and former Rivier trustee. The award is made to students in the chemistry department, or, if no eligible chemistry students exist, to a student studying biology, nursing, or health sciences.
Susan Carney Betkey ’74 Scholarship
Created in 1985 through a bequest from an alumna, this scholarship assists female single parents studying for an undergraduate degree.
Brenda Lois Birck Memorial Scholarship
Established by the family of Brenda Lois Birck, this scholarship recognizes her commitment to the value of higher education for students who have displayed both leadership qualities and a desire to serve others. The scholarship is awarded to New Hampshire residents studying at Rivier at least half time and pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or Elementary Education.
Dr. Daniel E. and Helen D. Black Scholarship
This scholarship was established to honor the lives and work of Dr. and Mrs. Daniel E. Black and their long friendship for and affiliation with Rivier University. This scholarship is available for qualified students to study nursing and/or a course of study that will lead them to medical school.
Dr. and Mrs. James Black Memorial Scholarship
Established by the couple’s daughter, Marion Black, the scholarship recognizes Dr. Black’s commitment to providing excellent medical care to his patients, his recognition of the value of personal involvement in patient care, and the family’s concern for the Nashua community. The scholarship will be awarded annually to full-time undergraduate students with preference given to students studying in fields related to the practice of medicine: nursing, premedical, and health sciences.
Fr. Edward E. Bracq Scholarship
Established in 1995 by Fr. Edward E. Bracq, chaplain at Rivier from 1975 to 1984, this scholarship assists a woman attending the School of Undergraduate Studies at least half-time, with preference given to nontraditional and/or physically challenged students.
Chenard Family Scholarship
Created by Françoise, Jeanne d’Arc, and Marcelle ’57/’63G Chenard in memory of their brother, Robert E. Chenard, this scholarship recognizes the dedication of the Chenard family to the education of youth in New Hampshire. They encourage youth to make positive contributions to their communities. The scholarship benefits a full-time undergraduate student who demonstrates academic excellence and community involvement; preference is given to students of Franco-American descent.
In Kyong Chung Scholarship
This scholarship recognizes Mr. Chung’s long affiliation with the University and reflects his respect for higher education, the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary, and the City of Nashua. The award will benefit a full-time undergraduate student from Nashua. Preference will be given to students majoring in nursing or the health sciences.
Louise (Renaud ’70) and Kenneth Classon Scholarship
Established to recognize Louise’s appreciation of her Rivier education as a graduate of the Class of 1970 and to serve as an inspiration to other alumni to support current and future students. This scholarship is available for full-time undergraduate nursing students.
Donat Corriveau Family Scholarship
Established by members of his family, this fund serves as a tribute to Donat Corriveau’s life and recognizes his long affiliation with the University. The scholarship reflects Donat Corriveau’s respect for the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary and their commitment to educating young men and women.
Dr. Normand R. Cote Memorial Scholarship
Established by the Cote family, this scholarship is awarded to sophomores pursuing bachelor’s degrees in nursing or the health sciences.
Rena Couturier Memorial Scholarship
Created by the Couturier family and friends to honor Rena Couturier and her dedication to the nursing profession. The recipient should be a full-time undergraduate student majoring in Nursing.
Michael ’09 MBA and Deborah Croatti Scholarship
This scholarship recognizes undergraduate students pursuing business degrees with a desire to serve the business and local community with a commitment to leadership and ethics. Created by Rivier Board of Trustee member and alumnus Michael and his wife Deborah, the scholarship recognizes the quality education Michael received in the University’s MBA program and their desire to support students on their educational path to degree completion.
William Ames Curtright ’02H Scholarship
This scholarship was established to help prepare qualified scientists for the future and is awarded to a full-time student majoring in a science field or a student preparing to teach science.
Pauline Cushion ’96 Memorial Scholarship
Established in 1997 by members of Pauline’s family as a tribute to her life and years of study towards her baccalaureate degree. Pauline attended classes part-time studying accounting while working and caring for her family. She had nearly completed her degree when she was diagnosed with a terminal illness. The scholarship honors her life and recognizes a continuing Professional Studies student.
Dr. Christos Daoulas Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship supports full-time students pursuing undergraduate degrees in education or nursing. Family members established the fund in 2008 in honor of Dr. Daoulas, who served as Dracut Superintendent of Schools for 38 years and taught in Rivier’s graduate education program.
Davis Family Minority Merit Scholarship
Established by the Davis family and will be awarded annually to a minority full-time undergraduate student majoring in math or science. Preference will be given to students of African-American heritage.
Alice LeBlanc Drew ’56 Scholarship
This scholarship was created by Alice’s husband, Richard Drew, to recognize his wife’s dedication to her alma mater and her desire to give back to support current and future students. It is awarded annually to a fulltime undergraduate student majoring in business.
Louise E. McLellan Dubois Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established by Armand Dubois, to recognize his wife’s commitment to the value of higher education for women who have demonstrated both leadership qualities and the desire to serve others.
Sr. Marie-Jeanne Ducharme, p.m. ’56/’61G French Scholarship
Established by Eric and Antoinette Rivard Drouart ’74, this scholarship recognizes Sr. Marie-Jeanne’s commitment to the French language and culture and the French-Canadian heritage in New England. Recipients should be full-time undergraduates majoring in French and preference is given to students of Franco-American heritage.
Bertrand C. Dufour Scholarship
This fund recognizes Bert Dufour’s commitment to higher education at Rivier University as exemplified in his many years of dedicated service as a professor in the biology department and as a student advisor while serving as Department Chair. The scholarship will be awarded annually to an undergraduate student working towards a bachelor of science degree in biology.
Elmer and Esther (Guimond) Dugas Memorial Scholarship
Established by Laurette Dugas Billig ’48 in memory of her brother and sister-in-law. The award recognizes their commitment to the value of continuing education and their involvement in helping others.
Margaret Quill Flynn ’81H Scholarship
This scholarship serves as a tribute to a former Rivier Trustee and recognizes her many years of service to Rivier University, the Nashua community, and the State of New Hampshire.
Dr. Wilfrid L. Fortin Memorial Scholarship
Created by the Fortin family to recognize Wilfred’s eminent career in the field of healthcare, his love of learning, service to his country, community and family and to benefit undergraduate students.
Polycarpe H. Genest and Marguerite Pigeon Genest Scholarship
Established to provide assistance to students attending Rivier University from Manchester, NH. Preference is given to students who are members of St. Anthony’s Parish.
Grace Family Scholarship
This scholarship recognizes the Grace Family’s long affiliation with Rivier and reflects the Grace family’s respect for the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary and for the education Agnes Grace received while an undergraduate student and graduate of the Class of 1959. The recipient shall be a full-time undergraduate student majoring in Education.
Rosalie Mielnicki Graveline Nursing Scholarship
This scholarship recognizes Ms. Mielnicki Graveline’s commitment to the University’s Catholic mission and to nursing education. As a nurse and instructor at Rivier, it reflects her desire to create opportunities for nursing students to learn in a caring environment. It also honors the dedication of nursing instructors and students who work diligently to bring themselves and others to spiritual, physical, and mental healing, and human dignity.
Yvonne Greenleaf ’64/’89G Memorial Scholarship
The Women’s Studies Committee of Rivier University created this scholarship in memory of Yvonne Greenleaf, alumna and longtime math professor. The scholarship will be awarded to a student minoring in women’s studies or majoring in math, science, or computer science. Preference will be given to students who are the first member of their family to attend college.
Kathie E. Haber Scholarship
Established by Steven F. Haber in honor of his wife to support undergraduate and graduate teacher education, specifically in computer science, mathematics, and education.
Dr. Paul V. Hajjar Award
The family and friends of Dr. Hajjar established this award to recognize dedicated business students who demonstrate a commitment to the pursuit of ethical business practices. The recipient will be a senior business student who has contributed to the Rivier community or his or her own community in a meaningful way.
Karen M. Hallinan ’91 Scholarship
Dennis Hallinan established this scholarship in memory of his wife to provide scholarship aid for nontraditional students pursuing degrees in nursing. The scholarship serves as a tribute to Karen Hallinan’s spirituality and her strong ties to Rivier University.
Nelle Holmes ’78H Scholarship
Awarded to students who have participated in or supported programs sponsored by the Center for Peace and Social Justice, this scholarship was established in 1997 to recognize Nelle Holmes, a leader in education and public service who served on Rivier’s Advisory Board for many years.
Frank T. and Corinne M. Kennedy Scholarship
Established by the Kennedy family to recognize the long-held conviction of Mr. and Mrs. Kennedy that the higher education of women is of the utmost importance. This scholarship was created to assist full-time female students. Preference is given to students who have completed one full year of study.
Sr. Joseph Landry, p.m. ’39/’92H Memorial Scholarship
Established as a memorial to Sr. Joseph Landry, p.m. ’39/’92H, beloved professor of education, this scholarship recognizes students majoring in education with a clear dedication to achieving excellence.
Captain Naomi Lanouette RN, A.N.C. Scholarship
Established in 1990 to provide support for students pursuing degrees in nursing, this scholarship recognizes Naomi Lanouette’s devotion to the nursing profession.
Latvis Family Scholarship
Created by members of the Latvis-Arel family, to honor the lives of Joseph and Doris Latvis and Joseph’s sister Anna Latvis Bouba, this scholarship is awarded to undergraduate nursing students.
Therese A. Levesque, Ph.D. ’38 Scholarship
Established by members of her family, this scholarship serves as a tribute to Dr. Levesque’s life and her love of God, country, family, and education. It also reflects Dr. Levesque’s respect for the education she received as an undergraduate student and one of Rivier’s first graduates from the Class of 1938.
The Honorable Mayor Donnalee Lozeau Leadership Scholarship
Created by business leaders in the city of Nashua to recognize the Honorable Donnalee Lozeau’s legacy of leadership and service to the city and its constituents as Mayor. The recipient should be enrolled full-time and demonstrate a commitment to leadership and service.
Eugene Lylin Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was created by his mother, Olga Flory, to recognize his life and the important role of his undergraduate education at Rivier. Born in Russia, Eugene was a beloved member of the Rivier community and the Raiders volleyball team. It is awarded to a full-time undergraduate who demonstrates academic achievement and an interest in sports, music, art, or community service.
Dorothy Wong Lu ’52 Scholarship
This scholarship recognizes Mrs. Lu’s respect for the education she received at Rivier as a member of the Class of 1952. The fund benefits students pursuing a full-time undergraduate degree.
Charlotte Putnam Maney Scholarship
Established by her family, this scholarship serves as a tribute to her life, her commitment to the nursing profession, and the education of nurses. Recipients must exhibit the qualities and dedication to become an outstanding nursing professional.
Wesley B. and Lucy O. Mansfield Scholarship
Recognizes Wesley and Lucy’s commitment to nursing and the health sciences, their love of learning and teaching and their longtime devotion to the Greater Nashua community. This scholarship fund is dedicated to strengthening the learning of nursing, biology, and education in an environment that maintains an emphasis on community and public service. The recipient should be a full-time day or evening student majoring in nursing, biology or education.
Denise Martínez-Fay ’93 Memorial Scholarship
Established by members of her family as a tribute to her life and years of study toward her associate degree in nursing. The recipient shall be a nontraditional nursing student who exhibits the qualities and commitment to become an outstanding nursing professional.
Kathleen “Katie” McCarthy Memorial Scholarship
Established by members of her family, the Kathleen McCarthy Memorial Scholarship serves as a tribute to her life and to her dream of becoming a teacher. This scholarship reflects the family’s respect for the education Kathleen received while a student at Rivier. The scholarship is awarded annually to a full-time undergraduate student majoring in education.
Richard F. Medas Scholarship
Established by MJ Scrivener Medas ’74/’85G to recognize her husband’s long-standing affiliation with Rivier. The scholarship for an undergraduate student was established to acknowledge both Richard and MJ’s service to the Rivier Alumni Association.
Dr. Charles L. Mitsakos Scholarship
The Dr. Charles L. Mitsakos Scholarship recognizes Dr. Mitsakos’ commitment to the field of education and service to Rivier as long-time Chair of the Department of Education. The scholarship is dedicated to strengthening the learning and teaching of education in an environment that maintains an emphasis on community and public service. The award will be made annually to a Rivier University full-time Undergraduate or Professional Studies student majoring in education.
Captain Mary Pierce Mosier Scholarship
Established by Captain Mary Pierce Mosier, U.S. Navy, Retired and a graduate of the Class of 1973, to assist undergraduate students majoring in math or science.
Dayle Moulton Memorial Scholarship
Created by Dayle’s family in recognition of her distinguished 43-year career as a registered nurse, her positive and optimistic nature, and her ability to make everyone she came into contact with feel better about themselves. This scholarship is available to full-time undergraduate nursing students who have graduated from a New Hampshire high school.
Mable A. Murphy Scholarship
Established by her son, Rev. Gerald T. Murphy in 1991 to provide scholarship support for students pursuing degrees in nursing, this scholarship honors Mable A. Murphy’s thirty years of nursing service.
Nashua College Club Scholarship
The Nashua College Club Scholarship was created by The Nashua College Club in 2013. The funds benefit students pursuing a full-time undergraduate degree.
Margaret C. Nugent Awards
Established in memory of Margaret C. Nugent to benefit students who have completed two years of undergraduate study and have made significant contributions in the areas of arts, leadership, and social commitment.
Sr. Marcelle Papineau, p.m. ’46 Scholarship
Established in memory of a dedicated teacher and long-time chair of Rivier’s Mathematics department to provide scholarship support for a full-time undergraduate student majoring in mathematics or computer science.
Mona L. Pelletier ’51 Scholarship
Established to benefit undergraduate students attending on at least a half-time basis, this scholarship reflects Mona Pelletier’s respect for the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary and for the education she received as a Rivier student.
Sr. Constance Perreault, p.m. ’59 Scholarship
Established in 1989 in honor of Sr. Constance Perreault, p.m. ’59 former Alumni Director of Rivier. Recipients must be enrolled full-time pursuing an undergraduate degree.
Sr. Jeanne Perreault, p.m. ’98H Honors Scholarship
Established in recognition of Sr. Jeanne’s seventeen years as Rivier president, this fund benefits students of exceptional academic standing enrolled in the Sr. Jeanne Perreault Honors Program.
Sheila Phillips and George Brown Scholarship
Awarded annually to a female undergraduate student, this need-based scholarship recognizes the long affiliation of Sheila Phillips and George Brown with Rivier. The scholarship also reflects their respect for the education Ms. Phillips’ daughter, Kimberly Phillips Bebyn ’91/’95G received at Rivier.
Bertha Capen Reynolds Scholarship
A need-based scholarship given by an anonymous Rivier alumna, this fund provides assistance to a full-time Rivier student in good academic standing with preference given to students majoring in sociology or minoring in social work.
Thomas Richardson Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1997 in recognition of the long-standing affiliation of Thomas Richardson and Delta Education, Inc., with Rivier. The scholarship benefits a student attending Rivier at least half-time, with preference given to employees of Delta Education, Inc. and members of their immediate families.
RISE Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was established by participants in the Rivier Institute for Senior Education (RISE). It serves as a tribute to the lives of its deceased members, family and friends. The scholarship is awarded to a full or part-time student attending Rivier with preference given to a student who has earned more than 30 credits and is currently enrolled in at least two courses per semester.
Anne Marie Rivier Scholarship
Established to provide scholarship assistance to relatives of the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary of the Manchester Province who are enrolled as full-time undergraduate students.
Maria E. Robert Scholarship
Established by her family to honor Miss Robert, a long-time resident of Manchester, NH, and a very devout Catholic. The scholarship is awarded to full-time undergraduate students.
Bill and Dawna Schleifer Scholarship
Bill and Dawna Schleifer created this scholarship to assist non-traditional students who are already registered nurses and are returning to college to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. It is awarded annually to a non-traditional undergraduate student enrolled in the RN to BS program.
Dr. George Shagory Memorial Scholarship
Members of the Shagory family established this fund in 1999 as a tribute to Dr. George Shagory’s life and many years of service to Rivier. Dr. Shagory was a professor of business since 1976 and served as chair of the graduate and undergraduate business departments. This scholarship assists a student enrolled in Rivier’s MBA program who attends on a half-time basis.
Albert J. Shurkus Scholarship
This scholarship was established in memory of the former chair of Rivier’s religious studies department to provide financial assistance to undergraduate degree candidates who lack the financial resources to attend college. Special consideration is given to international students.
Deborah V. Skrekas Memorial Scholarship
Established in 1997 by members of her family, the Deborah V. Skrekas Memorial Scholarship assists students who live in Massachusetts and who have completed at least 15 credit hours in the Rivier MBA program.
Student Government Association Leadership Scholarship
Created by the Executive Board of the University’s Student Government Association to support the Vision 2020 goal of expanding access to a Rivier education to qualifying and deserving students. The scholarship recognizes that Rivier students possess outstanding leadership qualities that prepare them for personal and professional success. This scholarship supports full-time students enrolled in an undergraduate day program and who hold leadership positions at Rivier.
Samuel A. Tamposi Sr. Scholarship
Established by the Tamposi family for full-time students at Rivier who exemplify determination, commitment to community service, and a strong work ethic. Preference is given to students residing in the Nashua, NH area.
Patricia A. Teixeira Nursing Scholarship
Created by Mark Hand RN, MSN, CNE in memory of his sister Patricia. Patricia was always proud of her youngest brother’s accomplishments as a nurse and nursing instructor at Rivier. The scholarship benefits undergraduate or graduate nursing students from New Hampshire or Massachusetts.
Henry L. & Emeline L. Thibodeau Memorial Scholarship
Sr. Lucille C. Thibodeau, p.m., Ph.D., tenth president of Rivier, established this scholarship in memory of her parents. This scholarship assists first-generation college students attending Rivier full-time, majoring in English or Communications. Preference is given to Catholic high school graduates.
Sr. Sylvia Trottier, p.m. ’43/’93H Scholarship
This fund, established by Lise Ouellette ’55 and Dr. Paul Ouellette, recognizes Sr. Sylvia’s commitment to Rivier and its mission. Throughout her 51-year career, including nearly 40 years as a professor and chair of the chemistry department and 18 years as Rivier’s first athletic director, she was an advocate for the education of women, especially in the sciences. The scholarship will be awarded to a full-time student majoring in one of the science fields.
Mary Ann Warpinski Memorial Nursing Scholarship
The scholarship was created to recognize Mary Ann Warpinski, RN. Although she did not attend Rivier, she received an excellent nursing education through St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Rochester, Minnesota. Throughout her life she exhibited the compassion, caring, and devotion to helping others that is the hallmark of a great nurse. Even when her memory failed in her later years, she consistently identified as a nurse and took great pride in her nursing profession. This scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate nursing student with preference to first-generation students and/or students from rural areas.
Bee & H. Robert (Bob) Weisman Scholarship
Established by H. Robert Weisman to recognize his longstanding involvement with and devotion to Rivier, this scholarship is awarded to a full-time student majoring in mathematics, computer science, a physical science, or education with the intent of teaching any of those disciplines at the middle or high school level.
Jonathan Wolf Memorial Scholarship
Established by his family to serve as a tribute to Jon’s life and strength of character, this scholarship is awarded to a full-time undergraduate student who demonstrates a solid work ethic and commitment to overcoming adversity to accomplish goals. The fund recognizes the positive spirit that enabled Jon to overcome challenges and serve as a role model for his peers and family members. Diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy as a child and in a wheelchair since age 10, Jon became a strong advocate for the disabled, serving as a local ambassador for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
The Wozniak Family Scholarship
This scholarship was created by Joseph Wozniak, graduate of the Class of 1976, in memory of Sr. Clarice Dion, fifth President of Rivier. The scholarship recognizes full-time undergraduate students who display academic excellence, leadership qualities and a desire to serve others.
Josephine and Jacob Zator Scholarship
Established in 1995 and named for the late parents of Susan Zator, a graduate of the Class of 1966, this scholarship is awarded annually to a full-time student pursuing a bachelor’s degree in business, nursing, or biology. The scholarship honors Josephine Adamczyk Zator, a loving mother and an astute and dedicated businesswoman, whose own academic career was cut short due to her family’s financial constraints. It also honors Jacob Ludwig Zator, a loving father and a largely self-educated man who never lost his enthusiasm for life and learning.
